10 Things You Must Give Up to Be Successful

When we think about how to achieve success, we often focus on the skills and habits we should add to our lives.  But sometimes the key to success actually lies in our ability to give up certain habits and behaviors.  So starting today…

  1. Give up the habit of waiting. – The way you spend your time defines who you are.  You don’t get to choose how you are going to die, or when; you can only decide how you are going to live right now.  Trust me, a year from now you will wish you had started today.

  2. Give up the excuses. – Sooner or later you will come to realize that it’s not what you lose along the way that counts; it’s what you do with what you still have.  When you let go, forgive, and move on, you in no way change the past, you change the future.

  3. Give up trying to be perfect. – Sometimes we try to show the world that we are flawless in hopes that we will be liked and accepted by everyone.  But we can’t please everyone, and we shouldn’t try.  The beauty of us lies in our vulnerability, our love, our complex emotions – our authentic imperfections.  When we embrace who we are and decide to be authentic, instead of perfect, we open ourselves up to real relationships, real happiness, and real success.  There is no need to put on a mask.  There is no need to pretend to be someone you’re not.  You are perfectly imperfect just the way you are.

  4. Give up doing things you know are wrong. – Nothing is more damaging to you than doing something that you believe is wrong.  Your beliefs alone don’t help you grow and thrive, your behavior and actions do.  So always do what you know in your heart is right, for you.

  5. Give up feelings of entitlement. – Abandon any sense of entitlement. – No one is obligated to give you anything. When you approach life with the misguided belief that you deserve things, your productivity will decrease and you will consistently be let down by the truth. However, when you appreciate what you already have and view positive experiences as unexpected rewards rather than expected entitlements, you will gradually achieve great success as you continue to develop.

  6. Give up relationships that want you to be someone else. – Let go of relationships that require you to be someone other than who you truly are. The most ideal type of relationship is the one that encourages personal growth and development without forcing you to fundamentally change your identity.

It is important to be in a partnership where you can be your authentic self, without any pressure to conform to someone else’s expectations or ideals. True love and connection should enhance your individuality and bring out the best version of yourself.

In a healthy relationship, both individuals support each other’s personal growth and encourage each other to reach their full potential. They understand that true happiness lies in accepting and embracing each other’s unique qualities and characteristics.

The beauty of a genuine partnership lies in the fact that it allows you to grow and evolve as an individual, while still maintaining your core values and beliefs. It is about finding someone who appreciates you for who you are, rather than trying to mold you into someone else.

Remember, a successful relationship is not about changing yourself to fit into someone else’s mold. It is about finding someone who loves and accepts you just the way you are, flaws and all. Being in a relationship that values your true self will ultimately lead to personal growth and fulfillment.

So, let go of relationships that demand you to be anything other than yourself. Embrace the kind of relationship that empowers you to become the best version of yourself, while still staying true to who you are at your core.
  1. Give up letting others decide what you can and can’t do. – To break free from the influence of others and live a truly authentic life, it is crucial to reject the idea of allowing them to dictate your capabilities. Instead, trust your own instincts and intuition, which serve as your personal GPS. When faced with discouraging statements like “You’re incapable” or “That’s impossible,” don’t let despair consume you. Remember that just because someone else failed, it doesn’t mean you will too. Embrace the belief that you are capable of achieving what others deem impossible.

  2. Give up being a helpless victim. – Embrace a mindset of empowerment. – It is indeed unfortunate that occasionally unfavorable circumstances befall even the most virtuous individuals. Existence can be marked by its lack of fairness, kindness, and justice. Nevertheless, allowing oneself to remain trapped in a victim’s mentality hinders personal progress and growth. It is crucial to gather strength and proactively embark on a journey of healing and self-improvement.

  3. Give up worrying about past failures. – Stop dwelling on past mistakes. Embrace your past without any remorse, handle your present with self-assurance, and confront your future without any apprehension. Your current situation is a result of your thoughts and actions up until now, and where you will be tomorrow is determined by the thoughts and actions you take moving forward.

  4. Give up blaming everyone else. – It’s time to acknowledge that you have control over your own circumstances. You must take ownership of your life; otherwise, someone else will dictate it for you. Blaming others is merely a way to avoid taking responsibility for your own actions and outcomes. It’s much easier to shift the blame onto someone or something else rather than looking inward. However, blaming is unproductive and doesn’t benefit you or anyone else involved. The blame game doesn’t lead to any winners.

Instead of expending your energy and inducing avoidable stress by shifting blame, concentrate on discovering authentic solutions and advancing. Accusing others only obstructs your capacity to move forward and discover resolutions. To genuinely conquer difficulties, you must cease depending on blame as an escape route and begin assuming responsibility for your own life. By doing so, you grant yourself the power to enact positive transformations and attain the outcomes you aspire to accomplish. Therefore, relinquish the blame and embrace personal accountability. It is the pivotal factor in unlocking your complete potential and forging a brighter future for yourself.

And always keep in mind, the path you are journeying on might be the one with more obstacles, but remain steadfast. Pay no heed to those who doubt you, refuse to let setbacks bring you down, and above all else, never abandon your belief in yourself.

It is perfectly understandable if you are unsure of your capacity to handle more. It is completely acceptable if you are uncertain about the next steps to take. Eventually, you will release the notion of how things “should be” and begin to recognize the multitude of amazing opportunities that lie ahead.

This is your life, so seize the opportunity and firmly take hold of the steering wheel as you navigate yourself towards the correct path.
